Discord Tasks Power-Up

Everything you need to set up the bot, create tasks from Discord, manage subtasks, and keep your team in sync with Trello.

Up and running in minutes.

Four steps from installation to your first Trello card created from Discord.

1

Connect your accounts

Open the Power-Up settings in Trello. Connect Trello first, then Discord. Select your server and the channel where the bot should listen.

2

Select a board and list

Choose the Trello board and list where new cards will be created. Any /task command in your Discord channel lands here.

3

Add the bot to your server

The bot must be a member of your Discord server. If it isn't, an "Add Bot to Server" prompt appears automatically in the settings panel.

4

Create your first task

In the configured channel, type a /task command. A Trello card and a dedicated thread are created instantly.

Two commands. Full control.

Everything is triggered from Discord - no Trello tab required.

/task

Creates a Trello card and opens a Discord thread. Only title is required - description, labels, and attachment are all optional.

/task title:…  description:…  labels:#tag  attachment:file

Minimal - title only

/task title:Fix login bug

Full - with all optional fields

/task title:Fix login bug description:Google OAuth fails on mobile labels:#bug #urgent attachment:screenshot.png
  • Combine multiple labels: #bug #urgent #feature
  • Labels are auto-created on the board if they don't exist yet
  • One file per command - add more directly in Trello
/move

Moves the linked Trello card to a different list. Must be used inside a task thread - has no effect in the main channel.

/move list:List Name

Example

/move list:In Progress
  • List name is case-insensitive
  • The list must already exist on the board
  • Any team member in the thread can use this

Manage every detail
without leaving Discord

Thread replies, reactions, and edits all sync to your Trello checklist automatically.

Adding Subtasks

Reply inside the task thread with plain text - each message becomes a checklist item on the Trello card. The bot reacts 👍 to confirm it was saved.

Only plain text is processed. Slash commands and main-channel messages are ignored.

Complete / Uncomplete

React with ✅ on a subtask message to mark it complete in Trello. Remove the reaction to mark it incomplete again. No typing, no switching apps.

✏️

Edit & Delete

Edit a subtask message to update the checklist item text in Trello. Delete the message to remove the checklist item entirely from the card.

🔄

Trello → Discord Sync

Every 30 seconds the bot checks Trello for changes: new items appear in the thread, deletions are removed, and completion state updates the ✅ reaction.

Due to permission constraints, edits made directly in Trello to items originally created from Discord will not sync back to the thread. Items you add directly in Trello are not affected.

Best practices for
your whole team

Small habits that keep your boards clean and your team in sync.

📝

Writing Effective Tasks

  • Keep titles short and action-oriented
  • Use description: for context, not the title
  • Attach a screenshot or log with attachment: - it lands on the card immediately
🏷️

Consistent Labels

  • Agree on a shared set with your team: #bug, #feature, #urgent
  • Labels are created on the board automatically the first time they're used
  • Combine multiple: labels:#bug #urgent
🧵

Organising Subtasks

  • One message = one checklist item - keep them focused
  • Order matters: items appear in Trello in the order you post them
  • Edit a message to rename; delete to remove
👥

Team Collaboration

  • Any team member in the thread can add, edit, or complete subtasks
  • Use /move inside the thread to advance the card through your workflow
  • The bot confirmation includes a direct link to the Trello card

Bot not responding to /task

Confirm you're typing in the channel configured in settings. Verify the bot has been added to your server - the settings panel will show a prompt if not. Slash commands can take up to 1 hour to appear after the bot first joins.

Card not being created

Use Discord's autocomplete when typing /task to fill in the fields correctly. Confirm a Trello board and list are selected in the Power-Up settings.

Subtask not appearing in Trello

Make sure you're posting inside the task thread - not in the main channel. The bot reacts 👍 to confirm receipt. No reaction means the message was not processed.

Trello changes not showing in Discord

Sync runs every 30 seconds - wait a moment and check again. Only the Stories/Subtasks checklist is synced; changes to other checklists are not reflected in Discord.

/move has no effect

/move only works inside a task thread created by the bot. It does nothing in the main channel. Make sure the list name exists on the board (it's case-insensitive).

Everything looks broken after reconnecting

Open the Power-Up settings and verify both Trello and Discord are connected and a board and list are selected. If credentials expired, disconnect and reconnect both accounts.

Your data stays yours.

Built privacy-first from day one. See the full Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.

🔒

Encrypted tokens

All API keys and OAuth tokens are encrypted at rest. Message content is never stored.

🤖

Minimal data access

The bot only processes /task and /move slash commands, and messages inside task threads it created. Regular channel messages are never read.

🇪🇺

GDPR compliant

Export all your data or permanently delete your account at any time from the Power-Up settings panel.

🗑️

Deleting your data

Disconnect a Board erases all data for that board. Delete Account erases everything. Both are permanent.

Free today.
Honest when that changes.

No card limits, no board limits, no credit card. All features fully unlocked right now.
